Rural Rays was established in 2024, while working on a cattle station in North Queensland. I noticed the harsh sun taking a toll on my skin. Wanting to protect my co-workers and I, I decided to design a neck scarf that would shield my neck from the scorching rays, whilst staying in place all day while busy at work. Using my trusty sewing machine, I dedicated my spare time to creating practical and stylish neck scarves that not only serve a purpose but also express a bit of personality through the designs. The process of crafting these scarfs became a rewarding pastime.
Scarves:
All scarves and ties are made from 100% cotton fabric, soft to the touch, cool to wear and yet durable. An elastic button hole and the option of snap buttons or tie back is installed to ensure the scarf is kept in place when you’re busy working.
Orders:
Most items are made to order, so please allow 7 days for your order to be made. New fabrics are purchased often, so keep an eye out and get in quick, as not all fabric is guaranteed to be restocked.

The Extended Story…
Growing up in Brisbane, I always longed for a rural life. After completing school in 2023, I headed out to the Gulf of Carpentaria, where the work on a one million acre Brahman cattle station is as rugged as the terrain. The challenges of my daily work, intensified by the relentless heat of the sun, gave rise to Rural Rays.
I set out to create a solution - not just for myself, but for my co-workers as well. The goal was to design a neck scarf that could provide reliable protection from the elements, that would stay securely in place throughout the busy work day, and also have a little flair. The idea was as practical as it was personal.
Armed with a trusty sewing machine and fuelled by determination, spare moments were spent crafting scarves that were more than just sun safe. They became a creative outlet, a way to infuse personality into the otherwise utilitarian world of rural workwear.
After numerous trial runs, a design was perfected, made from soft, 100% cotton fabric that was both cool and durable, with a comfortable elastic buttonhole to keep the scarf in place, no matter how hard the workday got. The final touch was an option for either snap buttons or a tie-back, customising it to suit different preferences.
Since its creation, Rural Rays has sent scarves to those working in all corners of Australia. The support from customers has been overwhelming.
What began as a necessity soon blossomed into a rewarding pastime, turning into a fully-fledged brand, Rural Rays. The name, derived from the very sun that inspired its creation, now represents more than just scarves. It’s a symbol of thoughtful design, functionality, and the spirit of rural Australia. Each scarf is not just a piece of fabric, it is a tribute to the hardworking people in these communities who need practical solutions, without sacrificing comfort or style.
Even in the toughest conditions there's always room for a little creativity.
